College-educated adults have seen their earnings rise over recent decades, and they have continued to get married at relatively high rates, typically to one another. One-parent homes generally do not have the same income as two-parent homes, even when we compare the homes of mothers of the same age, education level, race and state of residence. What are the odds that the government will start providing one-parent families with, say, benefits equal to the median earnings of an adult with a high school degree, which comes to around $44,000 a year? As long as that’s the case, income gaps between one- and two-parent homes will be substantial, and income matters a lot for kids’ prospects and futures. But again, it is highly unlikely that government or community programs could ever provide children from one-parent homes with a comparable amount of the supervision, nurturing, guidance or help that children from healthy two-parent homes receive.

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A police officer was killed and another was seriously injured Wednesday night when their cruiser was struck by a car speeding through a red light while fleeing a traffic stop in Connecticut's capital city, authorities said. Another car that had fled a traffic stop by other officers smashed into the passenger's side of the cruiser just west of downtown Hartford. The driver of the car, Richard Barrington, 18, of Hartford, was treated at a hospital, discharged and arrested, police said. While officers approached the car, Barrington sped away, drove through one red light and went through another red light before crashing into Garten and Kearney's cruiser, he said. The other officers did not chase after Barrington when he fled the traffic stop, the police chief said.

If oil vanished today, these and many other vital products and services that use oil or its derivatives would vanish too. The World Energy Report for 2022, published by the UK-based Energy Institute and consulting firms KPMG and Kearney, noted that fossil fuels constituted 82% of global energy in 2022. This is comparable to OPEC's latest world oil outlook and represents a similar level to 30 years ago. The bottom line is that it is possible to invest heavily in renewables while continuing to produce the oil the world needs today and in the coming decades. Similarly, in the EU, vehicles using petrol or diesel still accounted for around half of all car sales in 2022.

Hong Kong CNN —Temu has sued Shein in the United States, accusing its rival of violating antitrust laws by trying to monopolize suppliers and engaging in other allegedly illegal behavior. It follows another complaint from Shein, which sued Temu in December for allegedly mobilizing social media influencers to disparage Shein online. Shein has also “forced” exclusivity deals on clothing manufacturers to prevent them from working with Temu, the complaint states. A new ‘war’In its lawsuit filed last week, Temu claimed its recent entry into the United States had rattled Shein. It claimed that Temu had required them to make statements such as: “Shein is not the only cheap option for clothing!

Over the next three years, it plans to open eight large stores and nine smaller “plan and order points,” where customers can chat with design consultants and order products. “We see endless opportunities to grow” in the US, Tolga Öncü, head of Ikea Retail for the Ingka Group, Ikea’s Dutch holding company, said in a statement at the time. After splurging on home improvement projects during the pandemic, consumers are pulling back. The bubble in China's property market finally popped. In April, China's economic data came in weak largely across the board. The problem is that while consumers may be picking up, the biggest drivers of the Chinese economy — property and exports — are going to stay dormant. Consumer consumption makes up about 37% of the Chinese economy (in the US that figure is about 70%). Beijing has tried to shift the country toward a consumption model, like the US, but exports still make up 20% of China's economy.

[1/5] Arlo Brownlee, an engineer, checks battery banks at GlidePath's Byrd Ranch energy storage facility in Sweeny, Texas, U.S., May 23, 2023. The battery rush also puts the Republican-controlled state at the forefront of President Joe Biden's push to expand renewable energy use. Reuters drew on previously unreported data and interviewed more than a dozen executives from private equity firms, utility companies and energy storage providers involved in some of the biggest battery storage deals for this report. But the legislation also contains provisions that industry groups said could encourage investment in battery storage. Miller said he expects ancillary market prices to "collapse" as more battery storage comes online.

Two former employees say they were fired for allegedly breaking store policy at a Lululemon store in Georgia. The women told local outlets they were fired two weeks after reporting a robbery to police. "We didn't really feel very protected or know what else to do," Rogers told local TV station 11Alive. Temu is the internet's new discount store with bargain prices that rival dollar chains. Most of these products wouldn't look out of place at a dollar store. "If Amazon and Dollar Tree had a baby it would be Temu," one Twitter commenter wrote. "Temu is basically an online dollar store," another said. This is especially pertinent as stores like Dollar General and Dollar Tree continue to come under inflation-related pressures and raise their prices.

Company policy shared with Insider further indicates the women were likely fired for recording and interacting with the robbers, rather than for calling the police.

Here’s what living with body dysmorphia is like, and how people can find help. What causes body dysmorphiaThere isn’t a sole cause of body dysmorphia, but there are some contributing factors. “Body dysmorphia is in the same family of disorders as obsessive-compulsive disorder,” Durvasula said. Body dysmorphia was originally described as “the imagined ugliness syndrome,” Kearney-Cooke said. Since body dysmorphia is in the same category as obsessive-compulsive disorder, treatments for OCD, such as “exposure and response prevention,” could also be helpful for managing body dysmorphia.

In one Little League game in Alabama, a coach was seen grabbing an umpire and throwing him to the ground, while kids looked on in bewilderment. In another viral video, parents in Texas aggressively yelled at an umpire, who ended the game early over the disruption. It doesn’t mean I enjoy the way you are calling the game,” Wood told the umpire. The average pay for a youth umpire is $45 to $85 a game, according to the Babe Ruth League. Kelly Peterfriend, who also has a son in Ramsey’s Little League, says she gets most animated during her son’s soccer games.

A spokesperson for Temu told Insider that it uses its parent company's supply chain and logistics network to ship these items. Energy Information Administration (EIA) data showing U.S. crude inventories fell last week by 5.1 million barrels to 460.9 million barrels helped to limit the price fall, far exceeding analyst forecasts of a 1.5 million drop in a Reuters poll. Gasoline and distillate stocks also drew down, sinking by 2.4 million barrels to 221.1 million barrels and almost 600,000 barrels to 111.5 million barrels, respectively, the EIA said. A forecast of higher refinery activity, but lower crude exports, will continue a push and pull for weeks. Oil prices fell more than 2% on Tuesday as lingering economic concerns and expectations of further interest rate hikes that could curtail fuel demand growth countered signs of improving short-term consumption gains. "This (data) will add credence to claims that the U.S. economy is edging closer to a recession," said PVM Oil's Stephen Brennock.
